When word of the enactment of the Stamp Tax spread through the colonies protest began In Boston riots developed directed against both Royal officials and anyone who agreed to distribute the stamps. The mob directed its anger at Andrew Oliver who had agreed to be an agent of the stamp tax. They hung him in effigy, and threatened him if he did not resign which he did.
The rioting quickly spread to other colonies. Throughout the colonies the agents for the stamp tax were forced to resign. Behind much of the rioting was a new organization that had been founded to defend the liberties of the colonist.
It is time we took some lessons from history and began to demand from our non-representing Representatives that they do the right thing and stop the insane taxes or that we drive them from office. The same holds true for our judges who are now busy legislating from the bench. I'm surprised our legislators aren't in a froth that another branch is taking their jobs over.
Let your non-representing Representatives know you want them to repeal these most recent, most egregious and most wasteful taxes they've enacted on the American people.
I recently wrote a letter to my Representative Lynn Woolsey. I attempted to get across how out of touch those in Congress are with average Americans. I brought up the issue that if they felt that the leaders of AIG and other companies accept tax payer dollars ought to take $1 per year salaries and not take any bonuses that our Non-representing Representatives ought to lead by example since they too are taking taxpayer dollars. I suggested to Lynn Woolsey, Diane Feinstein, and Barbara Boxer should all agree to take $1 year salaries till the recession was over and should not sign another bill with pork in it and certainly not legislate for more pork.
To show you just how out of touch they are this is the response I got back from Lynn Woolsey. All she did was try to play the same old tired blame game and class warfare card. I feel the response speaks for itself and therefore I post it here.
From Lynn Woolsey:
‘Out of touch’ is certainly one way to describe the recent bonuses paid out to AIG executives. After taking tens of billions of dollars in taxpayer funds, executives from one company at the heart of our current economic crisis decided to reward themselves with $165 million in bonuses. It’s outrageous. That’s why I supported legislation in the House last week to recuperate this money on behalf of taxpayers. The Bonus Recoupment Tax Bill would impose a 90% tax on bonuses over $250,000 for executives at firms, such as AIG, that have received $5 billion or more from the government funded Troubled Asset Relief Program.
They act as though they were in no way responsible for the way our money was spent when they were the ones that voted in the legislation allowing for the bonuses. If their excuse is that they didn't know it was in the bill then don't they think that maybe they should take the time to read the bills they sign and vote for?
The rest of her letter to me boasted about yet more legislation she passed to make it more difficult to use public land (as a reminder... public means you and me, it does not mean them)
Maybe they don't feel like they're doing their jobs unless they pass at least a 1000 pages of legislation per day. You might laugh but they actually propose far more than that every day. If you don't find yourself disturbed to learn this, consider that the total of all the legislative pages written to start this nation were less than 300 pages... Handwritten!!
Our leaders are out of control and out of touch. They are now passing sweeping laws at such a pace you may well wake up and find this is no longer the culture or country you grew up in. If you don't demand responsibilty from your leaders and show them by voting the irresponsible ones out of office you won't get any real change.
We are in need of leaders who have the simple ability to learn from the experience of others. Our leaders don't seem to have this simple ability. We have France, Germany, even Sweden warning us that what we're doing with this massive governmental borrowing and spending is going to ruin our nation and quite probably affect the economy of the rest of the world in a very adverse way. Still our leaders won't listen to this and just keep thinking of how they can take more money.
The following YouTube video is well worth watching as well as a search on Hannan for more.
We as American voters also ought to learn from experience. I'm not quite sure but we always seem to vote for candidates based on what they promise not what they do. During the Obama campaign I asked many people who were pro-Obama what he had actually done that they were voting for him. They would invariably give me a blank look and tell me he organized community movements? They had no idea about his voting record or anything else he had done. Then they would immediately tell me how he was going to bring change, but when asked what kind of change it was usually more about what he was not going to do than what he was going to do. They would respond that he was not going to be like Bush. This to me is rather like non-dairy creamer. They tell you what it isn't not what it is.
Obama had a voting record. Though it was scant since he'd only been in congress as long as Palin had been governor and most of the time he voted present, still he was known for being the MOST liberal senator. It's hard to believe he could beat out Reid and Pelosi for that kind of thing.
As mentioned in my previous post it is time for a tax revolt, if you think demonstrations really influence congressional decisions you are sadly mistaken. It is time we voted these people out of office. I don't understand why with only an 11% approval rating 95% of them end up back in Washington. It is as though Americans are to cowardly to take a chance on someone else no matter how much they hate the person they have now. Maybe it's a matter of people hating all the other congressmen but everyone thinks the one in their district is going a great job.
Consider for a moment if in the next election everyone voted for anyone other than the incumbent. Business as usual in Washington would be over. They would no longer have anyone there to tell them, ".... this is the way it's done. " They'd have to figure out for themselves what was the best way to do things. They'd also be well aware that if they didn't do what WE wanted them to they'd be out next time around too. It is doubtful that anyone else we could send to congress could do a worse job than the ones we have now are doing.
If you absolutely can't bring yourself to vote for the other party then vote for the other person running from your own party. There are usually at least 2 from each party running. We really need to get these people out of Washington and take our government back.
If our leaders are so convinced what they are taking from us in taxes is so far then why do they hide behind tax withholdings. I would make the suggestion that every American demand of their representatives that they change just one law regarding taxes.
NO MORE TAX WITHHOLDINGS!!!!
You have to write a check to the government every month for your taxes. Right now they make it painless by taking it before you ever see. In many cases people would find themselves writing checks to the government every month for more than their mortgage. I can't help but wonder how many Americans would continue to send in their money.
The current level of our taxation is an outrage and Americans ought to be outraged and demand a change. Not to take MORE taxes but to stop taking so much and for our leaders to learn to do as we regular people have to... LIVE WITHIN THEIR MEANS.
If you genuinely think that taking a mortgages worth of taxes from you every month is for your good then please start writing the checks to the government every month. As our congress continues to vote themselves ever greater powers and more control in our lives we allow them to take both the control and our money to the point we are now taxed far more than Europeans were during colonial times, which was the reason they fled Europe for a place with a better hope. Now we have a congress who is planning on putting us further in debt than even the socialist nations of modern day Europe are willing to do.
I can't help but wonder when our congress will vote in a horse for a representative or maybe a pig just so they can show up the Roman Empire.
Here's an idea. Apparently our wonderful non-representing Representatives feel it is only right that leaders and CEO's of large businesses should not have personal jets, should not take bonuses and should only accept a salary of $1 per year.
It is only fair as the equivalent CEO's of their respective states and as recipients of our precious tax dollars that they should abide by the same rule and until they start accepting a paycheck of only $1 per year, do away with their private jets, and don't take any bonuses of ANY kind, that they should stop demonizing the leaders of these companies. After all they are doing the same thing themselves.
It's all a game of misdirection for them and they need to be called on it. If you feel the CEO's are in the wrong then you should direct that same anger at Congress and not vote for them again if they continue. further they want to force these companies to do what they say or no tax dollars. Isn't the same only fair if it's applied to them. It would only be right if all Americans went exempt on their pay checks till Congress can show they can stop all the wasteful spending even as they expect these businesses to do.
The media is as out of control today as the government. They have lost the ability or desire to do any serious investigative reporting. If the government tells them something is hands off then they drop it. If the government blames our woes on the greed of Wall Street the media does the same. The media does not continue to remind people that our government leaders and special interest groups pressured major banks to make loans they knew were bad.
Let us assume for one moment that Wall Street is greedy, and I'm certainly willing to admit there is a great deal of greed there. Greed being what it is, is never satisfied and always wants more. If for no other reason than this our "greedy" bankers would not make what they new were bad loans that would ultimately destroy their business and prevent future profits unless they were pressured to.
There is no doubt that Barny Frank and others in congress, and special interest groups such as ACORN pressured banks to make the bad loans they did. The reason is in their view of social engineering it is the "right" of every American to own a house. These people are very confused about what a right is. The media however rarely reminds the American people that it was our political leaders that are responsible for this outrage. They pressured the banks to lend to bad risks. It was not a lack or regulation but rather an over abundance of BAD regulation that lead to the demise of the banking industry. Again we hear little of this from the media.
Our politicians, who everyone knows are honest people, continue to tell us it was a lack or regulation that lead to this debacle and the media prints it. Sadly the media have become little more than political lapdogs. I do find it interesting that we now find political talk show hosts and what have been considered opinion pieces are giving us more investigative reporting than the main stream media.
The political talk shows which used to be mostly for entertainment now serve us by giving us more real information than the mainstream media. Still they refuse to report on such things as the numerous cases that have gone to the Supreme Court as well as other courts and been rejected time and again regarding Obama's natural born status. If the media actually reported these and questioned the judges as to why they did not simply demand of Obama that he produde the proof, they would not be able to hide in the background. Once brought to public light over and over a judge would hopefully feel compelled to require Obama to produce proof that he meets the constitutional mandate.
The media doesn't cover that Obama has a horde of Lawyers blocking every effort to get that information. They don't ask why is that? What is the matter with our media when they don't feel any need to report on a president doing everything he can to prevent him from providing proof he meets the requirements to hold the position he was elected to?!
The misdirection going on is not only with the goverment leaders it is also with the media as willing accomplices. Maybe they're afraid they don't be on the inside any more, but then what good is it to be an insider to the stories if you're not going to report them?
If we had this level of investigative reporting during Nixon's administration we would never have had watergate. No instead we are still hearing about one murdered person from more than a year ago, as this were some national disaster that must be resolved. It was one murder among how many hundreds. Why is this any different than kids in my town killed by gang members with no one brought to justice?
I cannot tell you how impressed I was with this video and the words are still true and worth the listen. I hope this video will be emailed to everyone you know, but at the same time I find it a little disheartening that the man who did this video advising us to send tea bags to Washington said on TV the other night not to send the actual tea bags but only the labels becuase the government was pretending they though it might be a dangerous substance. so already he has cowered before the government after criticizing how we have become cowards. Still it is my hope you will listen to this video as it's a timely and necessary message for today.
If we are not willing to put pressure on the leaders and the media to start doing their job we might as well give up on our country and our freedom as we've known them. I can't encourage you enough to right everyone of our representatives you can whether they are your representative or not as well as to start writing to the media and tell them you expect more. The media are not immune to public pressure either.
I would find it comical if it wasn't so sad the way the media behaves as though they're the only ones in the know all the time keeping the people out of the know. Most especially Fox News who set themselves up as "Fair and Balanced". the problem is they feel that fair and balanced prohibits them from reporting new facts. Facts do not require two sides. What they do instead is report news opinion. Though it makes for good TV it doesn't make for good news.
I find it laughable that in the last week alone I've heard them say at least 3 times something to the affect that none of the other news outlets are reporting..., then they give it the briefest mention possible in the most casual way possible and it isnot heard from again.
They have said almost nothing about Pelosi's statement that dealing with illegal aliens is un-American. They refuse to cover what is most certainly an ongoing major story. The story I'm speaking of is all the lawsuits which have gone to the supreme court and other courts throughout the nation and been rejected demanding proof that Obama is a natural born citizen. The courts feel safe to sweep these suits under the carpet knowing the media will not expose them for what they're doing. It is certainly not a difficult or drawn out case for our courts to tell our president to produce adequate proof he is natural born. They do not report on the army of lawyers Obama has out there to block these lawsuits and ruin the people who bring them. This is a story so obvious it's a wonder they don't cover it, but what do we get from the media? Silence!
Our representatives are in the process of passing a law to tax bonuses at AIG and other companies at 90% to "recover that money for the American people". Are our representatives really planning on giving it back to us? Why is the media including our favorite Fox News not covering how this law is unconstitutional?
Why is it that not one media outlet including Fox News had the guts to cover the story about the unconstitutionality of Hillary Clinton's appointment to Secretary of State? Why is it that these things get no more than a brief passing mention with NO investigative reporting. Fox News has a couple of experts debate both sides making it seem they have equal merit and it is not heard from again.
Of course they're more than happy to cover a murder for months on end as though it were the only murder to happen in the United States in 10 years. Their idea of "balance" is amazingly skewed.
sadly the only media where you can dependably find information on these things is the blogs and WorldNetDaily. The problem with this is that the American people still put enough stock in broadcast news that they think if you don't hear about something it must not be very important. Our News Media in the country is in a shambles.
There has hardly been a mention of the Tea Parties in our nation. Granted I think what the tea parties want to accomplish is admirable, but I also don't think it has any teeth. Our leaders have reached the point that sign waving and chanting even of thousands does not concern them. Consider this the Approval rating for congress was 11% yet 90% of them ended up back in office. They are well aware that the American people are all talk and no action.
I've heard people call in to talk show hosts and suggest we need a real tax revolt such as going exempt on our paychecks till congress listens. The talk show host invariably says something to the affect that they're not sure that would be such a good idea, or reminds them that they might get in trouble with the law. First of all it is legal to go exempt on your paycheck as long as you pay your taxes by the end of the year. Second the amount we're paying in taxes is outrageous and our leaders need to be made aware in a very real sense that we're fed up and angry as all get out about how they feel they can just take our money and throw it around. Waving tea bags or sending them to Washington is a statement with no teeth as I said previously. Our leaders take the attitude that we are children who need their superior guidance. Waving tea bags is no more of a motivation for them to listen than is a child holding his breath till his parents listen.
America Wake Up before it's too late. It will not be long and you won't be able to get your freedoms back.
