I recently wrote a letter to my Representative Lynn Woolsey. I attempted to get across how out of touch those in Congress are with average Americans. I brought up the issue that if they felt that the leaders of AIG and other companies accept tax payer dollars ought to take $1 per year salaries and not take any bonuses that our Non-representing Representatives ought to lead by example since they too are taking taxpayer dollars. I suggested to Lynn Woolsey, Diane Feinstein, and Barbara Boxer should all agree to take $1 year salaries till the recession was over and should not sign another bill with pork in it and certainly not legislate for more pork.
To show you just how out of touch they are this is the response I got back from Lynn Woolsey. All she did was try to play the same old tired blame game and class warfare card. I feel the response speaks for itself and therefore I post it here.
From Lynn Woolsey:
‘Out of touch’ is certainly one way to describe the recent bonuses paid out to AIG executives. After taking tens of billions of dollars in taxpayer funds, executives from one company at the heart of our current economic crisis decided to reward themselves with $165 million in bonuses. It’s outrageous. That’s why I supported legislation in the House last week to recuperate this money on behalf of taxpayers. The Bonus Recoupment Tax Bill would impose a 90% tax on bonuses over $250,000 for executives at firms, such as AIG, that have received $5 billion or more from the government funded Troubled Asset Relief Program.
They act as though they were in no way responsible for the way our money was spent when they were the ones that voted in the legislation allowing for the bonuses. If their excuse is that they didn't know it was in the bill then don't they think that maybe they should take the time to read the bills they sign and vote for?
The rest of her letter to me boasted about yet more legislation she passed to make it more difficult to use public land (as a reminder... public means you and me, it does not mean them)
Maybe they don't feel like they're doing their jobs unless they pass at least a 1000 pages of legislation per day. You might laugh but they actually propose far more than that every day. If you don't find yourself disturbed to learn this, consider that the total of all the legislative pages written to start this nation were less than 300 pages... Handwritten!!
Our leaders are out of control and out of touch. They are now passing sweeping laws at such a pace you may well wake up and find this is no longer the culture or country you grew up in. If you don't demand responsibilty from your leaders and show them by voting the irresponsible ones out of office you won't get any real change.
