A Nation at the Precipice

We are already at it again regarding the debt. It seems they just can’t stop raising the limit and then spending to them maximum of that limit as quickly as they can. Now the president is asking for another 1.2 trillion dollars and there is little or no talk that anyone is going to fight it. It seems that Republicans have already determined to just give in to it which can only have one end.

We already owe more than the total GDP of the nation and yet our president is determined to keep pushing it as much as he can. He seems determined to push us over the cliff before he can be forced out of office. Sadly Republicans are more than happy to let him as long as they can blame it on the president. This shows they don’t really care about the country so much as they care about getting back in power. They understand no economic downturn is going to seriously hurt them as individuals and as such they are only interested in being the ones in power when it happens. At that point they will practice the same blame game that Obama has been engaged in for the last 3 years. I can’t help but wonder if Obama won’t start in blaming Bush again during the next election. You would think he’d know this won’t wash, but as an organizer and agitator he doesn’t know anything but class warfare, racism and blame.

Our leaders are so completely out of touch at this point it is frightening and they seem to have no interest in the real needs of the people, only getting in power. Everyone is concerned that Obama is going to win again, but as long as no one votes for him then there is little chance he will get back in office no matter who else is running. What is important and what many people are missing at this point is that what is important is what the person who wins will do. The question is not who is in power? The question is what they will do with that power? Will they really try to turn the nation around or will they just slow down the damage but keep heading in that direction?

It certainly seems the republicans have no desire to change direction only speed. This is at least as scary a possibility as that of Obama being elected president again. We are heading off a cliff and they are both arguing over speed limits. I think we all keep hoping someone is going to come along that really excites the American people, instead the best we have is who we don’t like the least.

Our leaders feel no fealty to their oath to the constitution. They have no sense of honor. They understand accept and even thrive in the fact that the people expect them to lie, be dishonorable, self serving and even sexual perverts, as long as they don’t proclaim it too loudly.

It is most certainly true that the republicans are as incapable of standing against spending as the democrats are. They equally seem as antagonistic toward business as the democrats. Though this does not show in their words it most certainly shows in their actions and their voting. We only need to look at any attempts at debt reduction. Even when ONE man, Paul Ryan offered what was admitted to be a good plan still the republicans could not bring themselves to get behind it because they might take criticism from the democrats for “wanting to throw grandma off a cliff.” They are simply not able to show any leadership. At least the democrats admit openly that they want the government to  provide everything at the expense of taking everything they can from the people so they can give it back. The republicans on the other hand say they are for fiscal responsibility but have not presented a single workable plan for reaching that responsible spending. Instead they just keep raising the debt ceiling and demanding that the American people foot the bill whether they want to or not. Their reasoning seems to be that we must want whatever they want since we voted them into office.

What this should say to us is that the only way we can send the message that we want them to get the spending under control is to start voting every one of them out of office at every opportunity we get whether they do something good for their district or not. What they do for their districts at this stage should be completely unimportant. This is about saving our nation. Either the people we have in office don’t get it or they don’t care. In either case we need to get rid of them.

If the American people don’t wake up to the fact that our nation is in genuine danger of total collapse and be willing to make the hard decisions then collapse is what we will have. Many think that so many things are broken that they’re willing to risk collapse thinking anything that came out of it would have to be better, but history makes it very clear that this is almost never the case.

Equally how could anyone possibly believe Obama when he says he wants to take on big government and that it’s got to change at the same time he’s asking for another 1.5 trillion dollars to spend. Oh I know he justifies it because, gee, we have to have that money to keep things running till we can cut back, but where are the real cut? Where has one dime of real spending been cut? I don’t know of a single politician that can actually point to any real cuts in spending.

Sometimes I wonder at the stupidity of the American people who are more willing to believe the words of politicians than their actions. It is simply insane to think that if they haven’t done it before that they’re going to start if you give them one more chance. They have not shown a propensity to do that a single time so it would make far more sense to just vote them out of office. Will we actually do that? Somehow I doubt that we will. As I mentioned we do not seem to have the will to do the hard things any more than our leaders do and it is likely this is the reason they are also disinclined to make the changes that need to be made.

I know that even I have tended to lay the bulk of the blame on our leaders but the reality is that in all likelihood most of the blame falls on the people for blindly voting these people back in office over and over and by doing so telling them to keep doing the same things they’ve been doing all along. I only hope we will wake up and stop the madness before our nation is destroyed beyond repair!
