The republicans would have us believe they are looking to get spending cuts if they are going to agree to raising the debt limit, but as always we forget that what Washington means by spending cuts and what we mean by spending cuts are two completely different things.
We mean that we are not going to spend as much as we did last month or last year, or at some point just before this one, but what they mean is that they're not going to spend as much as they planned on spending. Let me clarify this, if they were goign to spend $100 million more this year than last year, but then they decided to spend only $80 million more than last year they consider this a cut. Based of of this they could then request their increase to the debt limit and the media will happily not report on this farce.
This is one of the reasons they always want to put the spending cuts in terms of years, it helps hide the fact that they're still spending more than they were the previous year. If they do it all this year we can see what's gone down and what has not. The media certainly doesn't help except to cover up what is actually going on, at least if it's the democrats doing it.
The democrats can't seem to find criticism of a single spending bill they've passed even down to the shrimp treadmill. Their insanity continues and still all they can think to say is that the problem is that they're not taking enough out of our paychecks. At least in their opinion it's not a problem with how much they're spending but rather how much they're taking in. This means they don't think they're getting enough of your money yet. Maybe if they had it all they could fnally fix all of our financial problems. We'd all have houses, and everything else we wanted or needed... but wait we wouldn't have any money unless the government decided we needed this thing or that thing. Do you see the problem.
We have a leadership in our nation that is only concerned with spending more and more of our money. As I don't thoroughly understand the dangers of reaching the debt ceiling it is hard for me to comment definitively on this, but it seems to me that we have to keep borrowing more money and the option for cutting spending never seems to be on the table or under any kind of consideration.
When all our leaders can think to do is to break out the credit card, ask for a limit increase so they can borrow more money to pay off their credit card that is already maxed out, but there is no serious talk about their spending habits then it is clear these people are in need of some serious debt counseling.
It seems most Americans understand this concept only too well. We are like spoiled children who simply feel that we should not be denied anything we want. In this respect Obama definitely comes off as a spoiled child even to the point of storming out of a room because he's being told quite straightly that he's not going to get what he wants.
The problem is that we're heading for a cliff and if something doesn't happen soon we're going right off the cliff and in this respect Obama is also much like a child. He doesn't seem to care what happens to the rest of us. He wants what he wants and will stand for nothing less.
Whenever one of our non-representing representatives says they're going to make a cut, the first thing the media should ask them if this is a cut on the rate of increase or if it's a real cut. We as Americans need to wake up to the constant deceptive language used by our leaders and by the media who support them.
